We teach girls to shrink themselves
To make themselves smaller
We say to girls
“You can have ambition
But not too much
You should aim to be successful
But not too successful
Otherwise you will threaten the man”
Because I am female
I am expected to aspire to marriage
I am expected to make my life choices
Always keeping in mind that
Marriage is the most important
Now marriage can be a source of
Joy and love and mutual support
But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage
And we don’t teach boys the same?
We raise girls to each other as competitors
Not for jobs or for accomplishments
Which I think can be a good thing
But for the attention of men
We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings
In the way that boys are
Feminist: the person who believes in the social
Political, and economic equality of the sexes

– Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

From Beyonce’s Flawless. So, so true.

I have a daughter who reminds me too much of what I used to be, full of love and joy, kissing every person she meets because everyone is good and will do her no harm. And that terrifies me to the point to where I can barely function.

Made to Love – John Legend

I was sent here for you
We were made to love
We were made to love.
You were sent for me too
We were made to love
We were made to love.

Oooh I’ve never seen anything
It’s much more than you and me
Extraordinary machine.
Oooh I’ve never loved, I’ve never loved
Never loved someone like this
All I know is

Oooh, have you ever known
We laid your eyes on
The perfect work of art
I knew right from the start.
Oooh, I was never sure of a God before
But I know he must exist
He created this.

Gaga comes to Singapore

Lady Gaga made her way to our little dot for the Born this way ball. And several months ago, once it was announced, we decided to go for it. We got out tickets – and then came the fun part – GETTING READY FOR THE BALL.

We were inspired by the Marry the night video and we put together our own looks but with something in common – leather harnesses.

Getting ready for the concert was sooooo much fun. The last 1 – 1.5 months have been dedicated to getting the harnesses ready, obtaining blonde wigs and getting one of our dearest friends (who is an amazing hairstylist) to style them, colouring hair, choosing costumes and all that jazz (: It basically was a blond hair, leather and black outfit fiasco – and it TURNED OUT FABULOUS.

Suit up

And like true models – we did our own little photoshoot, pre-concert (:

It was such a great experience. The concert was top notch, she really delivered, I had a fantastic time and I can’t wait till our next opportunity to do something like this again (:

Yoann Lemoine

Yoann Lemoine, otherwise known as Woodkid, is really carving out a style in his videos and I adore them. His mix for Lana and his single Iron is pretty solid too. He’s definitely one to watch.

I like alot of videos, I’m easily stimulated by visuals. But like many other jaded people, not many things move me. There is something riveting about his wide angle shots, slow mo shots and B&Ws, all intermittent and all beautiful.

Woodkid – Iron An AMAZING video. Easily one of my favorite music videos, ever.  Visual orgasms all around, its just breathtaking.

This is his remix for Lana’s  – Born to die. I usually hate remixes of slow songs, but this one is done perfectly. Great use of drums (which I’m always a sucker for), and I like it better then the original now.

Yoann Lemoine

We spent some time today watching videos by Michael Jackson. And whenever I watch his videos, I feel the pulling of my heartstrings.

I feel like it was such a loss that he left the way he did, that people looked at him that way, or judged him to such an extent. I spent a large portion of my childhood listening to MJ, and watching some of the older videos really brings on the nostalgia.

This was my fav MJ video when I was a child, it was probably around the time when I was completely obsessed with Egypt. The man created such timeless music, it amazes me.

Fix you

“She came home from the hospital after her father passed covered in tears. I started crying and kept asking her ‘What can I do for you? Tell me how I can help’…And she looked up at me and said ‘Just hold me..’cause you’re the only thing that can fix me right now.’ ”

– Chris Martin on the inspiration for ‘Fix You’

Everybody’s broken, somehow. This has to be one of the most romantic things I’ve read in a long while
